Music lessons will be offered to Mt. Greylock students free of charge during the school day, due to a new partnership with the Williams College Music Fellows. These music mentors are offering lessons during Blocks 5 and 7 (Directed Study and Lunch periods). Attached is an invitation and a tear-off information sheet to register.

Western MA Junior District Music Festival auditions will be held this Saturday, December 5 at Westfield State University. Mt. Greylock auditions are scheduled to start at 1:25 PM. It's recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes before our start time to register and warm up. Auditions are held in Wilson Hall, located in the center of the campus.

All local residents, from high school age and up, are welcome to join. The group – a community ensemble composed of MCLA students and community members – meets on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-7:30 p.m., on the first floor of the MCLA Church Street Center. The ensemble is looking forward to its annual winter concert, which this year will be held on Monday, Dec. 7. Greylock Regional High School on Thursday, February 2 at 7 PM in the Auditorium. She will be performing with a quartet which includes local trumpet player Tom Bergeron. Their program will feature a sampling of some of the works of the 20th Century's greatest Jazz composers, including Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Thelonius Monk.
McSweeney has had a rich career of Jazz and Broadway performances with some of the world's finest musicians since being chosen to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival at age 16 with the All Star Big Band fronted by Thad Jones and Mel Lewis. She has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Konitz, Joanne Brackeen, Dave Liebman, Lewis Nash, Holly Hoffman, Larry Goldings, Gil Goldstein, Rick Margitza, Mike Wofford, Frank Wess, Dennis Makrel, Renee Rosnes, Bucky Pizzarelli, Vic Juris, Mike Le Donne, Bucky Pizzerelli, Victor Lewis, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski, Stacy Rowles, Diva and Maiden Voyage. She also has worked with famous conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, John Williams and Lalo Schifrin. McSweeeny enjoyed a multi-year tenure in the pit orchestra for the Broadway musical Avenue Q and she has played at the Williamstown Theater Festival. On tonight's program will be the following pieces. The Holst, by the way, is performed to honor the 100th anniversary of its creation in 2011.

Congratulations to the following Band members for their participation in this past weekend's Western MA Senior District Music Festival at UMass -Amherst: Miranda Bucky, flute; Nathan Majumder, trumpet, and Caleb Raymond, trombone. The final performance, at 3 PM on Saturday, January 14, was to an audience of 1100 people.
Nathan will be auditioning for the All-State Music Festival this coming Saturday based on his outstanding District audition in November. |
